Camp Filson Press Trip

Posted on August 11 by 7th Rise in General

Last week we had the privilege to work with US adventure brand Filson! Established 120 years ago; practical, stylish clothing and equipment doesn't get much better. We got to sample some of their best stock, while foraging, fishing, butchering and lighting fires at 7th Rise HQ in Cornwall.

Camp Filson welcomed 7 journalists from some of the best outdoor adventure publications around the country. We took them around our hedgerows, seashore and woodland to discover what edible treats could be discovered on home soil and had them immersed in a wild butchery class where they saw 7th Rise Founder Thom cut, pack, wrap and cook a wild deer. Press described this experience as one of the best tutorials at the facility. Tom Power, Escapism Writer commented “what a wholesome learning experience that pays homage to sustainable hunting and essential survival skills."

The group then headed out to sea on a fishing boat, on the hunt for wild mackerel. The instructor taught press some fishing fundamentals, before they attempted to catch their salt water supper. They learnt to fillet their fresh catch during a cookery lesson in the kitchen, with their evenings involving a large cook-out, where everyone chipped in to buidt the fire and prepare and cook their own meals.

Chris Haslam,  from The Sunday Times spoke of the weekend: “Without doubt one of my absolute favourite trips to date, with a brilliant group of people and so excellently planned out. I'm raring to get more involved with Filson in any way I can, and I hope the UK expansion may mean some opportunities for content!
